When we bought the house, the stairs were covered with a black office carpeting. Liz and I removed the carpet and found fir planks underneath, the planks had multiple coats of paint over them and were quite distressed. We spent 3 weeks sanding and cleaning the stairs by hand, we were finally able to recover some of the charm of the house...
Carpet removed... previous owners had painted the stairs at some point...
Liz's favorite project, scraping all the paint and glue off of the stairs...
Halfway point, they're getting cleaner...
Finished project... Well worth the time...
Original color of the stairwell, definitely needed a new look...
Finished product, amazing what a little paint can do...
